Latest Feedback from the Delegates on our SMSTS Course -  August 2022.

Tennyson Suite has had the pleasure of training Programme and Project Managers the CITB Accredited Site Managers Safety Training Scheme Course every Wednesday for the last five weeks.

The training was conducted on site within HM Naval Base in Portsmouth.

Whilst delivering the syllabus of training required under the Scheme Rules of CITB, the trainer had the opportunity to provide a mix of theoretical and  practical on-site training with the delegates to enable the learning sessions in the classroom to be applied to the live environment.

"We hoped that this mixture of training would prove beneficial to the team as a whole."

Tennyson Suite has this week received the feedback from the delegates on the course and below are some of the responses. (Delegates' names have been omitted for privacy and security).

Dear John,

With regard to feedback on the course; as I mentioned during our last session I have received this training in one form or another a number of times and as always I have completed it with a renewed focus on H&S and this time has been no exception.

Whilst we covered the full spectrum of safety aspects during the course, it was your emphasis on early planning of the works and indeed the design, to ensure that construction works can be delivered as safely as possible for all those involved, that particularly struck a chord with me. Whilst I regard myself as reasonably experienced and competent in personally assessing risk and delivering safe systems of work, it was the occasions where we looked at safety issues as a collective, identifying hazards and exploring various options for the mitigation of risk that I will take away as something that I can use to deliver better and more effective H&S solutions on the projects that I manage in the future. I thought the visits that you arranged to various sites (unique in my experience of SMSTS) were a great vehicle to engage in this collective discussion and problem solving.

With regard to any improvements to the delivery of the course, these are limited, but perhaps something that illustrates how (the organisation's) specific processes reflect the legal requirements of CDM Regs, particularly after some confusion was raised during the course as to whether (the organisation's) processes that we deliver to, do indeed meet the requirements of CDM in all aspects.

I hope that this helps, and once again many thanks for your delivery of a very enjoyable and informative course.

Kind Regards

AM

Thanks for the course John.

Pace was correct and practical elements were good.

No real problems to highlight, I guess keep doing the same.

John,

As requested some feedback on the SMSTS training course which was undertaken over the past 5 weeks at PNB for (the organisation).

From a personal perspective, by having the 5 day course spilt over 1 day a week over 5 weeks, worked really well.

This was on two fronts, firstly not having to take a whole week out of the business, secondly given me time between each session to complete the homework, read the books and take time to understand / review each session.

The delivery of the course content was very good, it was related to real life experiences from both yourself and other members of the course.

What worked really well, was the opportunity to go to live projects around PNB to support the classroom training.

The combination of classroom and site visits made the content real and easier to understand and we were able to relate this to our day-to-day working environment.

Course venues were good, only one smaller room over the 5 weeks, which was ok.

Training material, books, delegate workbook were all very good and with us now having our own copies for future reference, is a great bonus.

Overall I found the training course and delivery of the content, excellent.

I cannot think of any area that I thought needed to be improved.

The course has refreshed my knowledge and general understanding of responsibilities and accountability of my team and myself, and has highlighted the changes in current and new legislation.

Thank you for your knowledge transfer and professional delivery and keeping us focused on the subject.

Kind regards,

CE

Good morning John,

For the purposes of feedback, and I’m sure to echo some of the comments from others taking the SMSTS, Please see notes on the course below:

With this being my first SMSTS course, being able to visit live sites on a daily basis really helped to reinforce the theory that we were studying in the classroom.

Further to this – I found that the amount of theory, group exercises and site visits were very well balanced. Trainer was extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter, and personally coming from the world of O&M – getting to work and study alongside the lovely people in Projects lent perspective towards larger budgeted new works and larger maintenance works that were going on around site.

Having the course scheduled as 5 days over 5 weeks really helped with being able to manage weekly workload, whilst having enough time to complete the homework and digest the course revision.

Particular personal benefit was a more reinforced understanding of CDM responsibilities and our roles with regards to this within the business going forwards.

Once again, many thanks for your time, knowledge and professional delivery of the course content.

All the best and hope to cross paths again in the future,

JV
